I have absolutely hated my closet doors since we moved in. So I used this shiplap wallpaper .
They were not only ugly, but they didn’t slide well either, and those metal round handles are a joke.
I had done a sharpie Faux DIY shiplap before and thought about doing a sharpie barn door. Well that was a total fail. So since the doors are a completely smooth surface I thought I would try the peel and stick wallpaper. I’ve used it before but the shiplap went horizontal and it was so hard to line up, and if your surface isn’t completely smooth it doesn’t work.
The wallpaper I used is from Amazon Shiplap wallpaper. I used 3 of these rolls for 4 doors. If I didn’t do the cross beams and diagonal, I could have used just 2 rolls. I had to hand cut a single strip from the shiplap to get the cross beam pieces.
The first thing I did was remove the doors, and lay them on the ground. And I removed the old hardware.
The door was the width of 2 rolls
So I laid one then the other, going right over the hole (it covered it).
There was a tiny tiny strip left white, so I cut some scraps to fill it in.
I used the spine of a hardback book to smooth the Bubbles as I rolled it. I used a razor blade to cut it at the bottom.
Here is the process picture. I had already put up some of the cross beams. And wasn’t sure yet if I wanted to do a diagonal. So I taped up a piece before committing.
I have a real barn door on the opposite wall that is for our master bath, so I wanted to emulate that.
I ordered the Hardware on amazon too
