This summer we added an outdoor kitchen to our patio. We had a Traeger smoker grill for a long time that we knew we wanted to build in and incorporate into the outdoor kitchen. So we started laying our a plan. We made an L shape BBQ kitchen, with the smoker grill on one side, so the smoke wouldn’t blow toward the patio or rest of the kitchen. I purchased all the kitchen appliances and accessories next. I knew we wanted a large sink, 3 drawers, under sink cabinet, and outdoor beverage fridge. It was also really important for us to have a bar area, with bar seating, like an island or peninsula of a kitchen. I also wanted an outdoor safe granite, but wanted the look of light marble. I found this peninsula sized granite slab, color: White River in a Leather finish, 42″x 10′ L. Then we purchased a few 6″ backsplash pieces wrap around the BBQ. Click here for supplies
Leathered granite is more stain-resistant than honed granite and disguises smudges and water spots better than polished granite. A leathered finish will also better accentuate your stone’s natural color than a honed finish. However, leathered granite is non-reflective and, as a result, can make a small space seem smaller.
Pros
- Conceals smudges and fingerprints
- Enhances the stone’s natural color
- Moderately stain-resistant
In these two photos you can see the cabinet, sink, outdoor stainless steel 3 drawers, and outdoor beverage fridge. Tap the photos for links to the kitchen items we used. Click here for sink, doors and drawers
This was built out of cinder blocks first. Leaving spaces for all the appliances. Then a layer of Stucco was added and white paint. We chose the color Alabaster by Sherwin Williams.

We did hire professionals for this project. They had to run plumbing and electrical under the concrete. So labor was the most expensive cost at $8,500 (that included the material for plumbing/electrical, cinder blocks, mortar, and stucco. I purchased the granite slab separate, the labor cost included the granite fitting and installation. I purchased all of the kitchen accessories/appliances from The Home Depot Online. So if you DIY this you could achieve this for about $3000-$4000. Our Traeger is an older limited edition model, so I am sharing similar smokers. Click here for link to Traeger
